How to write an amazing pop song

This article gives ideas on the step-by-step process of writing a pop song. It's so easy to understand, even a beginner can figure it out!

Writing a good pop song is all about location. Find a spot where you feel comfortable, won't be interrupted, and can effectively let your creative juices flow. Some suggestions are a recording studio, your bedroom, or outside under your favorite tree, but everybody has their own personal preferences.

Step
2Consider what is popular. Follow a similar formula to Billboard chart-toppers, but add your own twist. You don't want to be too predictable or safe, but you don't want to be too out there either. People like familiarity, but they don't just want to hear the same thing they've heard before.

Step
3Start with either lyrics, melody, or harmony. Once you have one of those components finished, move onto the next one. For example, I like to start with the harmony when I am writing a pop song. Once I have a good harmony, I either focus on lyrics or melody, depending on what's appropriate. If I am writing a song where the message I will be conveying outweighs the importance of the melody, I write my lyrics first. If I am writing a song like a club anthem or just a fun summer anthem, I write the melody first, and make sure it's extra-catchy. Then I write the lyrics.

Step
4Most songs have 2-3 verses, a bridge, and a hook/chorus that repeats throughout the song. They also may have a musical break, and intro, and an outro. Keep this in mind, and be creative!

Step
5Once you are finished writing the song, make sure to record it, write it down on sheet music and paper, or both. That way, you won't forget it. Also, you can share it with friends and fans more easily that way.

If you have writers block or writing the song is becoming too stressful or frustrating, take a 15 minute break. When you come back, your mind should be refreshed, and you should be ready to continue on your musical journey..It might help to have knowledge in playing a musical instrument, like the piano or guitar, before you start writing a pop song..After you are done writing your song, play it for other people and get their opinions. The only way to test whether or not you have a hit record on your hands is to play it for people and see if they like it or not..Don't copy another artist's work as your own. That is called PLAGIARISM..Make sure to copyright your song when it is finished. That way, it is protected..People might not like the first couple (or 20) songs you write, but don't be discouraged. Keep trying, and eventually, you could become the next big thing!
