Takoma: Rashad Gray's Novel

Gwen asks Becka how far is the convienice store from her house "About a mile," Becka says. Gwen says "Oh" in a surprised tone of voice. She didn't expect a convenience store to be that far in a supposedly close surburban neighborhood. Gwen is the only awake person in the vehicle. Her vision becomes blurry. Yet, continues to drive down the road. She looks up sees a maze of lights that look hazy. She does not realize she has gone through a red light at an inersection. Her eyes close. She hears Becka scream. They were hit on the side (side-impacted) T-boned by a tractor trailer going 65 mph. Becka was killed instantly. Somehow, Gwen survived the horrified car crash. But, Gwen becomes unconscious and goes into a coma for two days. When she awakes she acts where Becka is. She is told by her mother in a sorrowful voice that Becka was tragically killed in the car accident. She says "What that is impossible?" At first, she denies Becka's death, then she suddenly comes to the realization that her best friend is dead. She bursts into tears and starts crying wildly and screaming. She continues asking where's Becka and says she wants to see her. She has to be restrained by Hospital staff. Surpirsingly, Gwen only has minor injuries, Apparently, Becka took most of the impact from the crash since the impact or T-bone is on her side. Gwen leaves the hospital just in time to attend Becka funeral. Becka's mother is in tears. She had such a bright future and to have it taken away in an instant is unbelievable. Most of Becka's family is very angry at Gwen. They blame her for the crash. Plus, how is it that Gwen is perfectly healthy and Becka is laying in a casket after they were both in a horrific car accident. Becka's family continues heckling Gwen is she is politely asked to leave the funeral. She is told that she is not invited to the internment at the cemetery or any other post-funeral services. Gwen is clearly devastated by this.
